Origins

The Vaquero tradition began in Mexico in the 16th century, brought by the Spanish conquistadors. As Spanish ranching practices spread northward into what is now Texas, so did the Vaquero culture.

Vaqueros were renowned for their horsemanship, roping skills, and ability to manage large herds of cattle across vast, untamed landscapes. They developed many of the techniques and tools still used in modern ranching:
